If your garbage disposal is leaking, you in the wrong spot, click here.

If your garbage disposal is not leaking, but also is not working, it can only be one of three things:

  1. Your garbage disposal is not getting power. Check these things

    a) If you plug in a lamp, hair dryer, or something else into the garbage disposal electrical socket and it does not work while the garbage disposal switch is on, that means your disposal is not getting power, go to “1a)” If the lamp thing does work skip to step “aa)”

1a) Check the breaker box in your home for a tripped breaker.

If you don’t know what a breaker box is, but still want to fix the garbage disposal all by yourself, call (913) 320-5499 to have a zoom call with a professional who can walk you through it.

2a) If you know what a breaker box is and nothing tripped/switched off, hit the reset button on your outlet if it is a gfci outlet (an outlet with buttons)

3a) If your outlet is still not working then congrats, you are the lucky 1 in 2300 that had a wiring issue show up randomly, contact an electrician or handyman, or call us to see if you somehow missed something in those 2 steps

aa) Okay so we know you got power to the outlet which means something is wrong with the disposal, so hit the reset button (small square button usually on the bottom), plug that baby back in and try again.

ab) okay so 1 of 2 things just happened. Either your garbage disposal is now making a noise (big yay) or its not (big sad cause it broke broke and you need a new one). If the disposal is spinning as normal, congratulations you did it! hit the share button you big badass. If your disposal is humming but not spinning, hang in there and go to number 2.

  2. Your garbage disposal is humming but not spinning because it is clogged check these things:

    a) unplug that B and then take a look insider to see if there is any hard non food items. You should put your hand in there and pull any chunks out to get a good look (ew i know, maybe put on a glove or sumn)

    b) once its clean enough to see that nothing is blocking it up, pray that you have an allen wrench set and that the disposal has a crank at the bottom

    c) what we gotta do is break loose the spinning part inside. you can either do that by putting an allen wrench in the bottom and twisting a few times, or by using a screwdriver or maybe some long pliers to press on the flanges inside the top hole to break it loose and spin it.

    d) after you got it spinning plug er’ back in and she should be working. If not, go to step 3

  3. Last thing it could be: broken garbage disposal :(

Its okay, if you got this far you can probably do the replacement yourself. Try to get a new one the same shape as your old one. We will walk you through how to do a replacement here, but you’ll need these tools: screwdriver, silicone, or plumbers putty, and maybe some pliers.
